2012 Jury Members.

Every year, The Artist Project invites 3 members of the arts community to join our panel of independent jurors in the selection of new artists. We are pleased to present the panel for 2012:

 

Betty Ann Jordan

Art Writer & Tour Leader

Author of the Artist File column in Canadian House and Home magazine,
arts journalist Betty Ann Jordan also contributes art and design profiles and features to Fashion magazine, Azure, Toronto, Essential Toronto, Canadian Art and others. Through her company Art InSite, Betty Ann offers art, design and architecture tours of Toronto including behind-the-scenes visits to studios and encounters with artists, designers, architects and cultural impresarios. She was trained as an artist and holds a BA in Art Education.

 

Ester Shipman

Curator, Cambridge Gallery

Esther E. Shipman is a well established curator, writer and cultural policy consultant to non-profit arts organizations, as well as corporate and public sector clients. She has been the Curator of Architecture & Design for Cambridge Galleries in Cambridge, Ontario since 2007, and served under Commissioner Mary Misner, as the Assistant Commissioner for Canada to the 11th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice in 2008. Ms. Shipman was Founder and Executive Director of VIRTU/Directions in Canadian Design (1985-2000), a highly acclaimed design advocacy organization, pivotal in the development and promotion of new design both in Canada and internationally, and has lectured extensively on Canadian Design across Canada and abroad.

 

Annette Mangaard

Director

Born in Lille Vaerlose, Denmark, Mangaard emigrated to Canada with her family in 1960. She studied at the Ontario College of Art 1976-80, where she earned an honours degree in painting and printmaking. Annette Mangaard has written, produced and directed fifteen films in more than a decade as an independent filmmaker. Mangaard waas nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Director of a Documentary for her film about the famous artists trio General Idea and their artists activism work around AIDS. She has just completed a feature film on the Inuit artists co-operative in Cape Dorset, Nunavut KINNGAIT: RIDING LIGHT INTO THE WORLD. Recent work includes a feature length experimental documentary, INTO THE NIGHT, with the NFB. Other films include THE MANY FACES OF ARNAUD MAGGS, a one hour documentary on the celebrated Canadian artist/photographer Arnaud Maggs for TVO as well as a half hour art film titled BROKEN DREAMS.
