Art writer and tour guide Betty Ann Jordan explores changing ideas of beauty as revealed in contemporary art images of landscape and the body, featuring works by Artist Project 2010 artists. Moving deeper into the realm of appearances, we'll examine representations of the body and landscapes, including seascapes, cityscapes, mental landscapes.

Leah SandalsLiking What You Like When You Like It:  Art, Cash, Time and Change
The idea of liking something, be it a recipe, a sports team or a pop song, is pretty straightforward. Straightforward, that is, unless you're in the art world. That’s because even though the art realm can be full of possibilities and creativity, it can also be full of unspoken “rules” about scholarly connoisseurship, hot trends and market value. (As in, “That went for $3 million at auction, so it must be a great painting!” or “A big critic says this artist is terrible, so I shouldn't like their artwork anymore.”) This talk aims to strip away some of the jargon and buzz, and get at the importance of personal, emotional connections to art—a connection that is vital, whether you’re in a position to buy or not. The change of our emotional connections to art over time will also be addressed, as well as the diversity of connections and opinions that can naturally evolve.
